Mike Amodeo (Contractors) Limited have installed their second FM1 floor in as many months. The project consisted of the design, supply and installation of a 5,600m² High Bay extension to the Vygon facility in Swindon for Barnwood Construction. Managing Director Michael Amodeo commented:
“Following the successful FM1 work at the BBC Drama Studios, Barnwood felt confident enough in our ability to place the order with us. Like the BBC scheme, Vygon was project managed by our Contacts Manager Graham Kavanagh who has brought his extensive knowledge and expertise into the business and given us the confidence to bid for work we previously felt may have been too onerous”.
The floors were independently tested by Face Consultancy to confirm full compliance to FM1.

Mike Amodeo (Contractors) Limited have installed the concrete floors to the new BBC Drama Village in Cardiff Bay which will become the new permanent home for such well known drama’s as Casualty and Dr Who. The contract, carried out for VINCI Construction UK consisted of laying the concrete to all the Studio and Office floors. The total floor area of 18,000m² included 5,400m² of upper floors to the office areas and mezzanine floors within the studio complex.
The studio floors totalled over 12,000m² and were laid to the highest possible ‘free movement’ flatness category FM1. Managing Director Michael Amodeo said of the project:
“We are particularly proud of achieving the FM1 standard. We were confident that we possessed the personnel and equipment to deliver this and VINCI Construction UK had the confidence to allow us the opportunity. All the floors have been independently surveyed to establish compliance and the experience has given us the confidence to peruse contracts were this flatness standard is required.”

Amodeo Group has sold one of their subsidiary Companies, Amodeo Precast Limited to Creagh Concrete Products for an undisclosed sum. Creagh Concrete Products from Northern Ireland also have a manufacturing facility in Scotland and offices in England, this acquisition will now give them an established presence in South Wales. The business will trade as Creagh Concrete Cardiff Limited.

Amodeo Group were the match sponsors for Cardiff City V’s Derby County at the new Cardiff City Stadium on 29th September. Amodeo Group are founder members of the Premier Club at the stadium for Cardiff City FC and Cardiff Blues rugby and are very proud to have sponsored this match as Cardiff City put on a fantastic spectacle beating Derby 6-1. Mike Amodeo (Contractors) and Amodeo Precast have implemented a fully-capable Environmental Management System conforming to ISO 14001: 2004. Managing Director of Amodeo Group, Michael Amodeo, worked with ISYS International and a peer group from within the industry, facilitated by Laing O’Rourke Wales & West over a seven month period to successfully complete the Fast-Track-14 Course.
Mike Amodeo (Contractors) Limited, the South Wales based industrial concrete flooring company and part of the Amodeo Group, has opened a new office in Birmingham and appointed Graham Kavanagh as Contracts Manager for the area. Graham has a wealth of experience in the concrete flooring sector having risen to Director level during his thirteen years with Empire Flooring. For the past fifteen years he has been a Construction Manager with Stanford Flooring. Mike Amodeo (Contractors) have worked throughout the UK for many years but Graham’s appointment will enhance the Company’s plan to improve its service to existing and new clients in the Midlands and further north.

Mike Amodeo (Contractors) Limited have beaten off stiff competition to be awarded the contract to install the upper concrete floors to the new St Andrews Healthcare facility in Northampton for GB Building Solutions. The contract is in the region of 20,000m² of power floated concrete floor on composite metal decking and is due to commence in April 2009.
Mike Amodeo (Contractors) Ltd have taken delivery of a Somero Mini Screed. A lighter, smaller version of the Somero Copperhead XD, the Mini Screed is designed to work on upper floors such as composite metal deck and structural screeds. Group Managing Director Michael Amodeo says “the Mini Screed is allowing us to achieve a surface flatness on metal deck floors which has never been achievable using our other flood pour techniques”. Amodeo Group are please to be sponsoring Pentyrch Rangers AFC’s recently formed Youth Team for the 2008-2009 season. The team have had an outstanding start to the season with six straight League victories and a first round Cup win. Pentyrch Rangers AFC run sides from U8 to U16 and are now able to offer older players an opportunity to continue their footballing careers past the U16 level at a club where most of them have played since they were six years of age! Mike Amodeo (Contractors) Limited have won the contract to install the internal concrete floor at Costco Croydon for Miller Construction. This is the second Costco floor the company will have installed during 2008 and follows on from the completion of the work at Costco Cardiff for Laing O’Rourke earlier in the year. This is also a landmark as it represents the Company’s first project for Miller Construction.

The acquisition of this piece of equipment is further evidence of our long tradition of continuous improvement through innovation and modernisation. During his year in office as Chairman for the Concrete Society Wales Region, Michael Amodeo nominated the Wooden Spoon as the Concrete Societies charity which raised £5,250.00 from the various social events held during his reign in office. These included the Annual lunch, which was held at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff and the Summer Ball held at the Cardiff Marriott hotel. Amodeo Group has announced the appointment of Kurt Cowdery as the new Operations Director. Kurt brings a wealth of experience from the ready mixed concrete / flowing screed industry. Kurt starts in his new role in December 2007

Mike Amodeo Contractors has won the contract to supply a 25,000m2 concrete floor slab at the new Leckwith Retail Park development in Cardiff. The main contractor is Laing O’Rourke.
